the project

Based on the goals outlined in the RFP and community feedback, the NexBridge team is guided by the following objectives in our conceptual design and programming for this project:
  • Community Context and Character: Create a “context sensitive” project that understands the historic development pattern of Middlebury, reinforces the existing elements of local character, and contributes to the overall economic, cultural and social well-being of the community.
  • Building Design: Establish a building and site design that is human scale, promotes interaction with the street and pedestrian activity, and incorporates height, massing, proportion, and use of architectural features that are compatible with its surroundings.
  • Open Space, Landscape and the Environment: Promote the importance of “place-making” through incorporation of open space, landscape and architectural features that invites the public onto the property, generates pedestrian activity and creates comfortable, safe and accessible public spaces.
  • Economic Vitality: Incorporate a high quality building design and mix of uses that contribute significantly to the economic well-being of the Town, local merchants, and residents.
  • Parking: Strive to incorporate a parking program that meets the needs of the building and provides as many public parking spaces as possible considering physical and financial limitations.
